SMG Returns To TV!!!

5 long years after Emmy Award-Winning actress, Sarah Michelle Gellar departed from television as the lead role on Joss Whedon's acclaimed Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Variety has announced that she will return to the tube. Gellar will star in and executive produce The Wonderful Maladys on HBO. The New York-based ensemble series will centre on 3 dysfunctional siblings in their adulthood, who were orphaned at a young age. Variety also reports that Gellar's character will possess "a kind of zealous immaturity – like a drug addict with a to-do list.” HBO has bought the script and aims to shoot the single-camera pilot early next year.

In other news, four new cast members are joining True Blood. TV Guide has reported that True Blood, HBO’s new vampire series, is adding cast members for its 2nd season. Guest stars Mehcad Brooks, Todd Lowe (Terry), Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica) and Michelle Forbes (Maryann) will become series regulars, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The four will appear in the Season 1 finale, which will introduce Brooks as Benedict "Eggs" Talley, a mellow guitarist who’s had a tough life.

Christophe Beck - Sacrifice (Ultimix)

I got bored, and upon buying my most precious copy of the Buffy Score, mixed the two versions of 'Sacrifice' (original, track 22 from "Once More With Feeling" and alternate version, track 29 from "Buffy: The Score") into one, full song. It's simple, but it works. I used GoldWave, Nero Wave Editor and Windows SoundFile.

This music is intellectual property of Christophe Beck and 20th Century Fox. I do not own the rights to this song, or to any music used in Buffy The Vampire Slayer (the series or the film). I do not make claim to any ownership, writing credit or royalties from any of the material used. This piece of music was edited and posted for fan appreciation purposes only. If you own this material, or own the rights to this material and would like it removed, just send me an email and I will be happy to remove it. Thank you.

Conversations With A Ouija Board + Buffy Tarot

First question for the spirits: When will we see more Firefly?

Dark Horse Comics announced in May of this year that the publisher will be producing a set of tarot cards and ouija board based on the Buffy property. It's set to release this September with a price between $15 to $30.

From the official press release:
Named for an award-winning episode from Season Seven of the BVS television series—and written by Buffy Season Eight: Wolves at the Gate author Drew Goddard—the Buffy the Vampire Slayer “Conversations with Dead People” Board is a great game for fans, in this world and the next, to communicate with each other about life, death, and other mysteries. In the tradition of the Sunnydale Hellmouth, through which countless entities gained entry, fearless souls can let voices from the other side guide the planchette along the board to spell out the answers to their queries. Folks can channel their inner Willow and hone their witchy skills, providing hours of fun for the whole séance! Accompanying the game board and planchette, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer “Conversations with Dead People” Board includes an exclusive, comic-style instruction book featuring sequential art by Buffy SeasonEight guest illustrator Paul Lee!

ComicBookResources ran an interview a while back with the tarot set designer, Rachel Pollack, and Buffy comic series cover artist Paul Lee, who provided art for the cards. The interview also features a bit more of the art from the cards, so be sure to check it out.
Over at
Occasional Superheroine, Valerie D'Orazio also has a few additional pieces of art from the tarot set, and offers up some thoughts about the amount of flesh on display by the Buffy crew throughout the deck. She also offers her services as a tarot reader -- so keep that in mind.

Buffy MMORPG Announced & Firefly MMO Delayed

20th CENTURY FOX LICENSING & MERCHANDISING AND MULTIVERSE ANNOUNCE "BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER" VIRTUAL WORLD (Press Release)
Revolutionary Massively Multiplayer Online Game First Ever to be Available as Both Fully Immersive 3D Environment and Flash-Based 2D Game.

CENTURY CITY, CA
- Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising and The Multiverse Network, Inc., a leading provider of virtual world development technology for Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs), educational and social worlds, and business collaboration environments, today announced the development of an original "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" MMOG. The virtual world will be based on the mythology and iconography made popular by the Emmy® Award-winning series. The announcement was made by Academy Award® winning producer and member of the Multiverse Advisory Board, Jon Landau, during his keynote speech today at the Virtual Worlds Conference and Expo. The ground-breaking MMOG will offer a new experience for gamers, allowing them to play it either as a fully immersive 3D environment or as a Flash-based 2D game, where both types of players can interact. The game will be launched within "Multiverse Places," a new social virtual world from Multiverse. Currently under development, "Buffy" will go into "beta" testing later this year.Landau, a Multiverse Advisory Board member, who is in production on Avatar—the widely anticipated Fox film from fellow Multiverse Advisor James Cameron—commented, "Multiverse has the vision and expertise to create the type of rich environment needed for the best possible game based on the 'Buffy' series. The resources are in place to develop a great MMOG."Created by sci-fi and comic book legend, Joss Whedon, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" racked up critical and popular acclaim during its seven seasons on television. The series also inspired a line of top-selling comic books and successful merchandising lines with an avid fan base at retail. Fox Licensing & Merchandising (Fox L & M) continues to develop the brand for a number of targeted programs that reach its core market."Every once in a while a show comes along that lives long after its run on television, and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is that kind of show," commented Elie Dekel, Executive Vice President Licensing and Merchandising for Fox L&M. "We think that creating this virtual Buffy world is the perfect extension of the brand and will attract both fans of the show and newcomers interested in a great experience online.""As a brilliant storyteller and world-maker, Joss Whedon crafts stories that expand perfectly into the new medium of virtual worlds," said Corey Bridges, co-founder and Executive Producer, Multiverse. "Not to give away too much, but when the 'Buffy' team finished the television series, they created the perfect launching point for an MMOG where everyone will feel like they're an important character in the ongoing story."In related news, Fox's plans for the development of the previously announced Firefly MMOG have been delayed, but Fox looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Multiverse on this endeavor.Since Multiverse's launch over four years ago, more than 25,000 development teams—ranging from garage developers to Fortune 100 companies to Hollywood legends—have registered to use the company's platform technology. In addition, several hundred pre-qualified customers have already begun building MMOGs and non-game virtual worlds with the Multiverse Platform.

Joss Whedon's Popular Show May Have Ended, But The Story Lives On (IGN)
by
Jimmy Thang
September 3, 2008 - Twentieth Century Fox and developer The Multiverse Network have announced a Buffy the Vampire Slayer MMO, a game based off of Joss Whedon's popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show. The announcement was made by producer and member of Multiverse Advisory Board Jon Landau at the Virtual Worlds Conference and Expo earlier today. According to
Gamersdailynews.com, the game is currently in development and will be playable in a fully 3D environment, or as a Flash-based 2D application. Both types of players will be able to interact with each other. The game will launch through Multiverse's new virtual world, "Multiverse Places," and will go into beta testing later this year. One down side to this announcement is the delay of Multiverse's other MMO, Firefly, which is also based on another Joss Whedon TV show. Firefly was tentatively set for a to-be-announced 2008 release, but the company is now focusing its efforts on the newly announced Buffy title. For gamers unfamiliar with the long-running show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers, high school student by day, and destiny's chosen vampire slayer by night. In the show, she was aided in her expeditions with the help of her friends, also known as "The Scooby Gang."

Hello all! Great news!

As I'm getting all set up here, things are coming together well... I recently submitted my feed to iTunes, and they've officially approved my podcast. 0.5 Has Relaunched!

As you can see, I've overhauled the ol' blog. I'm still working out the kinks with iTunes subscriptions, and Pickle Player. I want to make this as accessible as I can to everyone. I've also listed my feed in several new podcast directories, so hopefully this will reach farther than it had an opportunity to before. In other news...

I have gotten my computer back! No word yet on when I will be fully set up-- I have to reinstall programs and dig through spindles of discs to find my files... etc. HOWEVER! I did delve into my iPod and pull out my first episode. Remember, this is almost a year old and hasn't been changed. My mission statement has. I will not be doing commentary-style episodes, but keeping it to in-depth conversation about episodes. I'll be exploring bloopers and gaffes, continuity, mythos, stories from the set, concepts on psychology, morality and subtext. I'll also talk about some of the cast members... etc. It should be interesting.

Podcast In Preparation

Yes, my mutant beast of a computer is still being reassembled, with the same love and care put into the BuffyBot. I'm excited. Much has been done to it!! I'm starting anew as well. I will be following through with my Buffy Movie podcast episode, but I've decided to disregard my old ideas about doing commentary-like podcasts and stick to a more fluid discussion. I'll be exploring things that occurred during the film, locations, brief bios on the actors, and the differences between the film, the graphic novel and Joss' original script. As well, I'm taking a cue from BuffyCast and delving into some far more interesting subject matter. I've been reading lately, and I'm using my books for inspiration.

Why Buffy Matters: The Art Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
by Rhonda Wilcox (I.B. Tauris Publishing)

Rhonda Wilcox is the world's foremost authority on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, its characters, and its themes. She is co-editor of Fighting the Forces: What's at Stake in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Slayage: The Online International Journal of Buffy Studies. She is an English Professor at Gordon College in Barnesville, GA. Wilcox argues that Buffy is enduring as art by exploring its excellence in both long-term story arc construction and in producing individual episodes that are powerful on their own. She examines the larger patterns that extend through all seven seasons: the hero myth, imagery of light, naming symbolism, Buffy's relationship with Spike, sex, and redemption. Wilcox also focuses on acclaimed and noteworthy episodes, including the musical "Once More, with Feeling," the largely silent and wordless "Hush," and the dream episode "Restless." She examines Buffy's literary narrative, symbolism, visual imagery, and sound. Combining great intelligence and wit, written for fans, this is the worthy companion to the show that has claimed and kept the minds and hearts of watchers worldwide.

This accessible collection of essays on Buffy the Vampire Slayer defends the artistic merit of the fantasy TV show with equal parts wit and insight. Wilcox, an English professor at Gordon College, is a fan of the series and doesn't condescend to other fans or disparage what she believes is "art, and deserves to be so studied. It is a work of literature, of language...of visual art...of music and sound." Wilcox looks at the big-picture narrative arc and at individual episodes, finding impressive, but sometimes tenuously connected, influences at work: Joseph Campbell's momomyth, Shakespeare, T.S. Eliot, John Donne, Virgil and Charles Dickens. "One of the great themes of Dickens's Bleak House," she writes, "is our interconnection; and one of the great themes of Buffy is the virtue of community." Not surprisingly, the author has no patience for critics and academics who dismiss Buffy as mere "cult TV" on the basis of its genre and argues that fantasy can have more emotional resonance than realism. Though not convincing as a work of genuine scholarship, Wilcox's book is a serviceable addition to the canon of Buffy.

Although television is often looked down upon, Wilcox, one editor of Slayage, the online journal devoted to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, presents a compelling argument for it as an art form as worthy of respect and acknowledgment as film or literature. She furthers her argument by using Joss Whedon's iconic show as a salient example, drawing on the depth of the characters, the symbolism in the show, and the many real-world commentaries that permeate its narrative. The first half of the book deals with everything from the significance of the characters' names in relation to their identities to parallels between Buffy and the Harry Potter saga, while the second half offers detailed analyses of seven of Buffy's finest, most complex episodes, including the ones that deal with the loss of Buffy's virginity and the almost entirely silent episode "Hush." The library of scholarly Buffy titles continues to grow, with Wilcox's thoughtful, accessible volume an honorable addition to it. (4/5)

The Psychology Of Joss Whedon: An Unauthorized Exploration of Buffy, Angel, and Firefly
by Joy Davidson (Benbella Books)

Joss Whedon—creator of the wildly popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer, its spin-off Angel, the short-lived series Firefly, and the feature film it inspired, Serenity—takes a seat on the couch in this in-depth examination of the psychological gravity that has captivated his deeply devoted fan base. Whedon fans will enjoy a discussion of issues that are both funny and profound, from the significance of Angel’s mommy issues and the best way to conduct government experiments on vampires to what could drive a man to become a cannibalistic Reaver and the psychological impact of being one girl in all the world chosen to fight the forces of darkness.

Joy Davidson, PhD, is a psychologist, certified sex therapist, and author who is a familiar expert guest on national television and radio, including Oprah, 20/20, CNN News, NPR, Prime Time Live, Entertainment Tonight, and Montel. She is the author of or contributor to 6 nonfiction books and the creator of multivolume self-help videos for women and couples. She is a well-known magazine and web advice columnist and appears frequently in publications such as Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Esquire, Redbook, and Men’s Health. She lives in New York. True Blood (New Series)

ABOUT THE SHOW: Thanks to a Japanese scientist's invention of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. And while humans have been safely removed from the menu, many remain apprehensive about these creatures "coming out of the coffin." Religious leaders and government officials around the world have chosen their sides, but in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, the jury is still out.

Local waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), however, knows how it feels to be an outcast. "Cursed" with the ability to listen in on people's thoughts, she's also open-minded about the integration of vampires — particularly when it comes to Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a handsome 173-year-old living up the road. But as Sookie is drawn into a series of mysteries surrounding Bill's arrival in Bon Temps, that tolerance will be put to the test.

A sexy, scary new drama from 'Six Feet Under' creator Alan Ball, 'True Blood' delves into the meticulously-crafted world of novelist Charlaine Harris. Described by the Emmy®-winning Ball as "popcorn for smart people" and featuring a colorful cast of local misfits, 'True Blood' promises an intense ride.

This show is getting the nod from our friends at Geekshow. You can check out their review of the pilot here. Check out the Official Site for True Blood. The premise reminds me a lot of Blade...

The story itself is penned by Rob Deshotel, writer of numerous episodes of the TV series throughout its six year reign, seeing Buffy return to Sunnydale after the cataclysmic events of the seventh and final season of the show. Romanian developer Beast is busy preparing the game for its release this autumn, so in the meantime take a stroll around the virtual gallery below to gorge yourself on a whole world of new screens.

Dry Spell Coming To An End...

It dawned on me recently that my podcast has been in existence for nearly a year, with a half episode ever put out. I finally got my computer and was recently given a DVD burner, so things are developing. My internet access has yet to be connected, but in the meantime, I have located my original casts to repost when my connection is up, and I am ready to start producing new episodes pretty quickly. If you have a Buffy podcast, and you need free advertising, I am happy to include a radio spot for your show on mine, just send them to me, and tune in when the episodes come up. Send, send, send!!

Can't Stop The Signal

Hello everyone,
I know it's been quite awhile, but I'm dropping in to let you all know that my podcast is coming back! It will probably be another month or so before I have an episode out, but now that my computer is working, I just have to set up my recording area and install my programs. I've been itching to get back to it. I've been rewatching Veronica Mars and listening to Neptune Pirate Radio again, so the inspiration fire has been relit. I'm changing my format, a bit, I haven't got a definitive vision yet, but I've been writing show notes, getting myself prepared, so I'm eager, excited and enthusiastic. Remember, I am RSS feed enabled, so you can subscribe. Internet Explorer 9 has subscription built in, so XP users don't need to download a program. Also, RSS feed subscriptions are downloadable through a widget on Windows Vista.

A nice new feature, though, is that I've found a streaming audio site, so the episodes will be much easier to access. They will also be mirrored for download. Stay tuned!

If anyone wants to submit their personal Buffy related stories, you can write them in my comments section, or email them to me, or record your comments and host them (mediafire, zshare and sendspace are best), just email the link.

I'm Not Dead!

Hello everyone

Sorry for my absence for these past months. Unfortunately, I have had some extremely serious personal and health problems. I nearly died in November from a chronic illness I have, and ended a serious, long-term relationship shortly after recovering and had to move, then had to take a medical leave of absence to recuperate.

I no longer have my computer and no internet access at this time. I'm hoping to change that in the next few months, but it is going to take some time. For the time being, this podcast is not under production in any way, and I will be relaunching it when the time comes. I have, however, decided to redo the entire format of my podcast when I return to it.

I'm steering clear of the commentaries, because as I've disovered, I am not among the amusing commentators of the world. My podcast was fairly uninteresting. It will likely be closer to the format of the other podcasts in a forum of discussions, but I am still hoping to do the audiodramas of the comic books.

Bye for now...
Kassi
